SANTA CRUZ HEALTH AUTHORITIES CULMINATE NATIONAL LUNG MONTH WITH TUBERCULOSIS AWARENESS ACTIVITY
August 31, 2022 | Mayor's Office

To culminate the local government’s observation of National Lung Month during the entire month of August, the Municipal Health Office led by Santa Cruz Municipal Health Officer Dr. Honesto Marquez held a Tuberculosis (TB) Awareness Activity in Barangay Lapu-Lapu on August 31, 2022.
Tuberculosis is an infection caused by the Mycobacterium tubercolosis bacteria which commonly affects the lungs (pulmonary tuberculosis) but may also infect other parts of the human body such as the lymph nodes, bones, joints, spine, brain, and kidneys.
The TB Awareness activity was attended by Barangay Health Workers and residents suffering from TB who received check-ups and consultations from the health personnel who assisted during the event.
While TB remains among the top highly communicable diseases around the world, it is largely treatable. This is why full awareness of its symptoms and free testing as well as treatment in government health facilities is key not only to prevention but timely and appropriate medical interventions.

In her message during the event, Santa Cruz Municipal Mayor Marisa Red-Martinez encouraged the participants with TB to keep a positive mindset and engage in healthy activities through proper nutrition and exercise. Mayor Red assured the attendees of her administration’s full support for appropriate and inclusive local government health services to address the health-related challenges and vulnerabilities of Santa Cruz residents. Mayor Red also thanked the local government’s tireless health personnel and staff, including barangay health workers for their initiatives and efforts in reducing social stigma over TB and in addressing the concerns of residents with TB or families taking care of TB patients.
